Massage at Schiphol or in Zuidas: choosing between two business districts
Plenty of visitors divide a working week between Amsterdam's two business districts: the towers of Zuidas and the offices around the airport. Where you sleep decides how the evening is arranged, and the difference is worth knowing before you choose the hotel.
Zuidas and the Schiphol business district are linked by a short train ride, and many visitors move between them several times in one week: a client in a glass tower near Amsterdam Zuid station on Tuesday, a headquarters at Schiphol-Rijk on Wednesday. Hotels exist at both ends. If an evening session is part of the plan, the choice of hotel changes three things about it: how quickly she can reach you, what has to be paid before she sets out, and what the room is like when she arrives. This page sets the two side by side.
Arrival: a window against an agreed journey
Zuidas sits inside the city window, so a confirmed booking there means arrival forty to sixty minutes later. A massage at Schiphol works on a different footing. The reply to an airport request names a journey time first, because the drive out depends on the hour and the traffic on the ring road, and the hour is fixed only once you agree to it. In practice that means a Zuidas booking can be made later in the evening with less planning, while an airport one rewards a message sent at lunchtime.
The deposit
Every booking at the airport, Schiphol-Oost or Schiphol-Rijk carries a deposit of half the fee, however many times you have booked before. In the city the same rule covers many bookings but not all of them, and the booking page sets out which. A visitor who wants the simplest possible evening, decided on the day, will find Zuidas easier. One who plans the week on Monday will hardly notice the difference.
The rooms
Hotels in Zuidas lean towards long-stay business guests and are often newer, with larger bathrooms and rooms that are easy to warm. Airport hotels are built for a night or two and for sleep above everything else, which makes them quieter than their location suggests. For oil formats either works. For nuru, which needs a good shower and a floor that can take a little gel, ask yourself which bathroom you would rather stand in afterwards.
The rates do not take sides
Nothing in the price changes between the two districts. The table on each profile holds in a Zuidas tower and in a room by the runways, all taxes included, with no charge for the journey out to the airport. A partner joining you, or a second therapist, reads off that same table in either place.
If your week moves between the two, one thread covers both. Say which hotel you are in on the evening you want, and the reply applies the right rule. The guide comparing the airport with the city covers the same choice for visitors who stay in the old centre instead.
